Details of Works: Reconstruction of a five-mile section of the Haines Highway to improve safety, support long-distance transportation, and enhance access to recreational areas being completed by Secon and Southeast Roadbuilders. Southeast Roadbuilders is delivering roadway upgrades to meet current 55 mph design standards, including two highway realignments, installation of debris flow culverts, fish passage and habitat improvements, and reconstruction of the Chilkat River Bridge. The project improves a critical transportation corridor connecting Southeast Alaska with Interior Alaska, Canada, and the broader North American highway network while reducing long-term maintenance requirements and increasing corridor resilience.
